Okay, so I know that for most geographic locations, August is far from the coolest month. It’s usually Equator Hot during that month here in the Midwest. But that doesn’t change the fact that August is my favorite month. Not just because it’s my birthday, or because it always meant that the kids were going back to school soon (although that used to rank right up there). No, it’s because that’s the month I sold my first book to New York – just days after my 40th birthday. And it’s the month ONE year later, that my first book came out in print.
That’s my book! And to tell you how long ago it was, this is a Borders Books! To go there now, you’d need a time machine (and if you have one, call me).
That’s me at my very first signing ever. I had red hair then and was a bit thinner, but nothing mattered because I was signing my first book!
‘Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy was that first published novel. It has a special place in my heart for that reason. Of course, now I’m writing my 24th book, and I’m 13 years older, but I’ll always remember August for the thrill of making that first sale and a year later, signing that book.
And it all happened in August.
